Your Chance to Own Piece of Showbiz and Fashion History
POSTED: May 31st, 2009
I have to admit I have always been a Marilyn Monroe fan, being a curvy blonde myself I admire the woman who made the hourglass figure the blueprint for female sexiness. To that end I am in love with her wardrobe, from her Andre De Dienes swimsuits to the infamous Seven Year Itch dress. Out of all the clothes she wore, though, I love none more than the evening jacket from The Prince and the Showgirl. The beautifully Edwardian styled jacket in pale blue and peach edged with Fortuny-esque pleats and finished off with appliquéd pink roses was designed by British costume designer, Beatrice Dawson, who was renowned for her work on period dress, and it, among others, is now up for auction in Julien’s Auctions summer sale taking place on 27th June.
If you fancy placing a bid the jacket is expected to fetch $8000 - 12000 while a William Travilla designed leotard is expected to go for $2000 – 4000. If you would like to own a piece of Marilyn’s wardrobe that won’t break the bank there are a selection of belts and scarves that are estimated at a, slightly, more reasonable $400.
In addition the auction offers the chance to own a piece of fashion history with items from the estate of celebrated Hollywood costume designer Edith Head among the lots on offer, these including sketches for actresses, Carole Lombard, Audrey Hepburn, Katherine Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor. Furthermore, the auction offers a vast number of items from the estate of actress and performer Ann Miller, the stunning scarlet and black, fringed, satin pantsuit from Dames at Sea estimated at a, within buying, $300 – 500.
The auction runs from Friday 26th to Saturday 27th June both at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas and online at www.juliensauctions.com. Online bidders will benefit from live streaming video of the auction and real time interactive bidding. Bids may also be placed online in the weeks running up to the auction.
Public exhibitions run from Friday 15th May to Monday 1st June at NewBridge Silverware, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland and from Saturday 13th to Thursday 25th June at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada.
A print catalogue can be purchased from their site at a cost of $50.
