In the last couple of weeks we have had the coffee filter prom dress and the coke can tab prom dress, but it seems that Aimee and Maranda are not the only ones getting creative with their prom attire. In competition for a $3000 cash scholarship from Duck Tape hundreds of couples entered this year’s Stuck at Prom contest. The task, to create complete prom outfits for two people, constructed entirely out of Duck Tape. The outfits ranged from those that were barely more creative than the Halloween bin big with a head and arms cut out to those that would put A-level art students to shame. The contest is now closed and the top ten have been announced, but we have added a few of our favourites below.
When I first saw this jigsaw inspired piece I was convinced that the heart was separate from the outfits, but in fact the couple have actually made a jigsaw out of themselves. Not the most technically difficult piece, but certainly one of the cleverest.
Sunglasses at the ready, this couple appear to have taken their inspiration from Stabilo Boss! That said I am impressed at the criss-cross portion of the girl's dress, though, one has to wonder how it is going to withstand the rigours of prom night. However, that may well be the point, long dress with fancy detail for photos and the formal portion of the night then snip that part off and you have yourself a sexy mini dress for the party. In effect, two dresses for the price of one!
A more conservative choice than many of the others what is impressive about these outfits is that it is hard to believe that they are made out of duct tape at all. The girl's cream dress with its ruffled blue pleats is stunning in its own right, but I suspect those trousers are not a duct tape creation.
A patriotic pair, the attention to detail on the eagle backed jacket alone should have secured them a spot in the top ten.
This peacock pair did make it into the top ten and it is easy to see why, the tiered skirt, the multitude of accessories, the painted waist coast and, la pièce de résistance, the Cruella De Ville collar.
Finally, this slightly edgier pair just scream club culture and prove the prom does not have to be always have to be an outlet for your childhood Princess fantasies.
