UK department store Debenhams launches un-airbrushed swimwear campaign
Debenhams are to launch a new in-store swimwear campaign featuring an un-airbrushed model. The campaign will feature three images, the un-retouched picture, a copy with requests for 'fixes'; and the airbrushed 'after' shot. Debenhams creative director Mark Woods said: "We want to help customers make the most of their beauty without bombarding them with unattainable images. Our campaign is all about making women feel good, not eroding their self-esteem by using false comparisons."
US Vogue Threatens to Sue Canadian Charity
Last year US Vogue hosted Fashion's Night Out in New York City, it trademarked the name. This year the small city of Victoria in Canada's British Columbia hosted a charity fashion show called Victoria Fashion's Night Out, Vogue magazine's lawyers threatened to sue if the name was not changed immediately. Organisers of received the letter just one day before the event and had to scramble to change the name.
American Apparel says, if you are bigger than a size 6 we don't want your business
The average woman in the US wears a size 12 - 14 (UK 16 - 18), the average woman in the UK wears a size 14 (US 10). American Apparel, however, has refused to produce certain garments in any size larger than a US 6/ UK 10. This latest news follows information released to gawker.com that American Apparel hires and fires based on attractiveness, produces extensive grooming codes for employees going into such detail as to how often they should blow dry their hair and has managers working seven days a week after having fired their employees for not being attractive enough.
